What does Spam really cost your organization?

Everyone agrees that Spam is an annoying waste of time. Most people however don't realize just how much that wasted time costs your company.

Many companies we see today get an average of 200 Spam messages per employee per day. That's quite a lot of repetitive motions hitting the delete key. If it takes 10 seconds to realize each message is garbage, it's at least 33 minutes per day that each employee spends just sorting thru unproductive junk
mail. If that employee costs an average of $22 per hour, the pesky Spam is costing you $12.10 per day. Let's multiply that times the staff of a typical 20 person small business and we get $242 per day and $60,500 per year (considering the average employee works 50 weeks). Ouch!

Here is what you can do about the Spam issue:

• Don't list all your employee's names on your web site. (Spammers use email harvesting scripts to get email addresses)
• Ask that staff not subscribe to non work related newsletters and web sites utilizing their work email address.
• Do not respond to Spammers messages, or try to unsubscribe. This just confirms your are a valid recipient for the bad guys.
• Check your computer for Viruses and Spyware regularly, if you are infected, you could be part of the Spam problem.
